Are Glock pistols waterproof and will they fire underwater?
I have heard from several people and several sources that Glock pistols of any caliber will fire underwater and when wet. Is this true?
ANY semi-automatic pistol or assault rifle will fire underwater - once. The initial round in the chamber will exit the muzzle and go about 15 or 20 feet, but any semi-auto that is gas-operated will not load another round into the chamber - the gas mechanism is full of water, and the bullet passage cannot displace the water to operate the mechanism and chamber a new round. This, you have one shot.
I do believe that there is one highly specialized handgun built to fire repeatedly underwater, but I apologize, because I don't remember which one.
If you find yourself underwater and need repeated shots, use a standard revolver, or an old lever-action mechanical loading mechanism. Do not use a pump action shotgun (or even a break-open shotgun) because the nature of the shotgun charge and cartridge will always blow out the breech, which is not a good thing, especially if there's shrapnel and your face is close to it.
